| Background Description / Mission Statement: |
| Established in October 1998, the Certification Center for China Energy Saving Products is an organization affiliated to China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS). It is the only authorized third-party accreditation organization able to issue certificates for energy- and water-saving, as well as environmental protection products. Utilizing the technical expertise of CNIS, the Certification Center conducts policy research, provides consulting services and develops product standards. In addition, it is responsible for organizing, managing and implementing the accreditation program for environmental (including energy & water conservation) products, and related international cooperation activities. |
Product Accreditation:
- CNIS Certification Center issues certificates about energy saving, water saving, environmental protection, compulsive 3C, quality management certificate and ELI international certificate. Cases include "power adapter energy saving certificate project (2003-2004)"
International Cooperation:
- In 2005, the China Standard Certification Center (CSC) was commissioned by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), to develop and expand the ELI certification and branding system globally. The expanded ELI program is operated by a new institute, the ELI Quality Certification Institute, which is led by CSC with assistance from a team of international experts from Asia, North America and Latin America.
- Communicating with related foreign organizations in order to carry out the coordination and mutual recognition of Chinese energy saving certificates and their counterpart certificates globally. Cases include UNDP/GEF China Green Lights Project (2001-2005)
Policy Research:
- Provide technical support for governmental departments to develop industrial policies, such as "the Research Program on the Priority of China Energy Saving Products Certificates(2001-2005)" |
